Liverpool have taken the first step in securing Mohamed Salah’s future by making an initial contract offer to the 32-year-old forward. Salah’s current deal runs out at the end of the season, and this proposal comes amid ongoing discussions to retain several of the club’s key players.

The offer to Salah follows similar proposals made to Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts are also set to expire next summer. According to sources familiar with the negotiations, while this move signals Liverpool’s intent to keep their star forward, it does not yet guarantee an agreement. Talks are ongoing, and a resolution is expected to take time.

The Clock is Ticking

From January 1, Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold will be free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with clubs outside of England. While Liverpool remain optimistic about retaining all three players, the lack of certainty is far from ideal as the window for foreign interest approaches.

Salah had previously expressed frustration over the delay in discussions, stating after Liverpool’s win over Southampton last month that he was “probably more out than in” when it came to staying at Anfield. He also admitted disappointment at the absence of a formal offer at the time.

Liverpool have since acted, presenting proposals to all three players. However, the details of Salah’s offer, including its length and financial terms, have not been disclosed publicly.

Salah’s Stellar Form

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Salah has continued to deliver exceptional performances this season. The Egyptian has scored 15 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions, including two goals and an assist in Liverpool’s recent 3-3 draw against Newcastle United. His contributions have been pivotal in Liverpool’s strong start under new head coach Arne Slot.

Since joining Liverpool in 2017 from Roma, Salah has become one of the club’s all-time greats, scoring 226 goals in 370 appearances. His time at Anfield has seen him lift the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool’s Current Campaign

Under Slot, Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League table, though they missed an opportunity to extend their lead this weekend due to the postponement of the Merseyside derby amidst severe weather conditions in the UK. In the Champions League, they are also flying high, with five wins from five matches in the league phase. Salah has played a key role in their European campaign, contributing one goal and four assists so far.

Salah and his Liverpool teammates are set to face Girona tonight as they aim to continue their strong run of form. Meanwhile, the club will be working hard behind the scenes to resolve the uncertainty surrounding the contracts of Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold.
