Jimenez Breaks Chicharito’s Record with Double Strike for Fulham
A Historic Milestone for Jimenez
Raul Jimenez etched his name into Premier League history by becoming the highest-scoring Mexican in the competition’s history, surpassing the record previously held by Javier Hernandez (Chicharito). Jimenez netted two second-half penalties in Fulham’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town, taking his Premier League tally to 55 goals, two clear of Chicharito’s long-standing record.
Fulham manager Marco Silva was full of praise for his forward, emphasizing the significance of the achievement and how it reflects Jimenez’s resilience after a career-threatening injury.
“It is an incredible achievement,” said Silva in his post-match press conference. “I’m really pleased for him, not just as a player but as a person, especially considering the challenges he has faced in his career and life. It’s a historic moment for him and for Mexican football.”

The Journey Back: Overcoming Career-Threatening Injury
Jimenez’s road to this record-breaking moment has been anything but easy. The 33-year-old forward suffered a life-threatening skull fracture in November 2020 after a collision with Arsenal’s David Luiz while playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The injury kept him sidelined for eight months, during which his career and future were uncertain. Jimenez made a courageous return in time for the 2021-22 season but struggled to regain his best form, failing to score a league goal during the 2022-23 campaign.
Despite his struggles, Fulham showed faith, signing him for £5 million in July 2023, a decision Silva reflected on with pride after the Ipswich match.
“He was really down when we signed him. We trusted him when others doubted, and now it is paying off. His work rate and attitude have been exemplary, and today’s goals were a reward for his persistence.”

Surpassing Chicharito’s Record
Jimenez’s achievement breaks the record previously held by Javier Hernandez, who scored 53 goals during his Premier League career with Manchester United and West Ham United.
Jimenez reached his total across two clubs:
• Wolves: 40 goals
• Fulham: 15 goals (and counting)
Jimenez’s eight goals this season have been crucial for Fulham, solidifying his role as a key player for the Cottagers.

Jimenez’s Legacy in the Premier League
Jimenez’s success is not just a personal triumph but also a landmark moment for Mexican football. His achievements in one of the world’s toughest leagues stand as an inspiration for young Mexican talents aspiring to follow his path.
Silva highlighted the historical significance, stating:
“He’s now part of Premier League history. I’m not sure when or if this record will be broken, but it’s a proud achievement for Raul, his family, and Mexican football.”

What’s Next for Jimenez?
Jimenez has shown no signs of slowing down. As Fulham continue their push for a strong finish this season, his goalscoring prowess will be vital.
His form could also reignite his international career with Mexico, where he remains a highly respected figure.
“I’ll be back for more,” Jimenez said after the game. “This is just the beginning. I feel stronger and more confident, and I want to keep scoring and helping my team.”
