FANTASY FOOTBALL FEST 2025!
Friday 15th August 2025, Vauxhall London, 2-10:30pm!

Scott McTominay has been named among the 30 nominees for the 2025 Ballon d'Or, marking a major milestone in the career of the Napoli and Scotland midfielder.

A Remarkable Rise Since Leaving Manchester United

Just under a year after making a £25 million switch from Manchester United to Napoli, McTominay finds himself in elite company. The 28-year-old, who was allowed to leave his boyhood club in search of regular first-team football, has enjoyed a transformative season in Italy.

His nomination is particularly historic: he becomes the first Scottish player to be shortlisted for the Ballon d'Or since Ally McCoist in 1987.

Key Role in Napoli’s Serie A Triumph

McTominay played a pivotal role in Napoli’s title-winning campaign, scoring 12 goals in 34 league appearances. His performances were so impactful that he was named Serie A Player of the Year, further justifying his place on football’s most prestigious shortlist.

“It’s been a dream season,” he said in a recent interview. “To win the league and now be in the conversation for the Ballon d’Or—it’s everything I’ve worked for.”

The Competition: Global Stars Vie for the Top Honour

While McTominay's inclusion is a feel-good story, he faces fierce competition. Among the frontrunners is Ousmane Dembélé, who dazzled for Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League-winning campaign.

18-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal of Barcelona and his teammate Raphinha are also in the running after helping their club lift the La Liga title under new manager Hansi Flick.

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland, a consistent force in world football, is once again in the mix. However, his teammate Rodri, last year's winner, is notably absent from the shortlist after missing much of the season with a knee injury.

Premier League Representation

The Premier League sees limited representation this year. Chelsea’s young playmaker Cole Palmer is the only nominee from the club. Arsenal’s midfield dynamo Declan Rice and striker Viktor Gyökeres both make the list, while Liverpool are strongly represented by Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, and Mohamed Salah.

The full 30-man list includes stars from across Europe, reflecting a mix of established legends and rising talents.
